New standards set by size of plasma system
Reese hardening plant commissions a new commercial installation - Part II -
The size of the plasma system is setting new standards: the max diameter that can be hardened is 2,500mm (for a height of 2,000 mm). Dipl.-Ing. Gerhard Reese: "This puts us in a position to heat-treat very large components as well, and because many of our customers, particularly manufacturers of large-scale gears, want an extremely reliable nitriding method with good controllability and short process times, we expect that the new system will be intensively used."

This is enforced by the fact that thanks to comparably low temperatures and good dimensional stability nitriding is suitable for the antiwearing treatment of materials and components for the most diverse applications. Some examples are tool and mould manufacture as well as hydraulics.

Flexible operations for special layers
The planning stages required extensive cooperation from PlaTeG, the Reese hardening plants, research institutes, and the first customers for this new method. Only in this manner could we ensure that the system complied at all times with the requirements on flexible operations. Gerhard Reese: "When we know the requirements our customers place on the component, then we can cooperate with them to optimize the layers for their respective applications. This can offer considerable advantages in, say, the heat treatment of components for power stations and large-scale commercial installations."
