    1. Environmental target:
improvements to the quality of work and waste air
   
Measures
Project for waste-air scrubbing
- investigation into extraction plant and filtering systems
  (effects, costs / benefits)
- installation of suitable plant
Responsibility: Manager, Environmental Group
Period: Till the next environmental audit (2002)
    2. Environmental target:
improvements to soil and water protection
   
Measures
a) The open sample and hardening buckets are replaced with
   sealable vessels
Reponsibility: Quality and Environment
Period: 1999
b) New filling / storage hall and new collecting vessel for
   waste oil
Responsibility: Quality and Environment,
                Maintenance
Period: 1999
c) Extensions to oil tanks
        - increased height of double walls
        - leakage indicators
        - splash guards
Responsibility: Furnace Hardening Plant Management
Period: 1999
d) Installation of a waste-water shutoff valve
Responsibility: Head of Maintenance
Period: 1999
                
    3. Environmental target:
reducing our waste water by the volume from the roof drainage system
(at least 1000 m3 per year)
   
Measures
a) Connecting the roof drainage system to the
          "Dorneburger Mühlenbach"
b) Utilizing rainwater as cooling water in the newly built
   automatic batch furnace hardening plant
Responsibility: Head of the new production hall, 
                Quality and Environment
Period: Till the next environmental audit (2002)
    4. Environmental target:
investigation into all environmentally hazardous substances, with
subsequent reduction or replacement
   
Measures
Environmental hazard analysis (substitution analysis)
Responsible: Quality and Environment
Period: 1999 (present substances), 
        continuous (new orders)
    5. Environmental target:
20% increase in the proportion of recyclable waste materials
   
Measures
a) Provision of new, clearly designated waste-sorting containers
   (paper, other waste, oil-contaminated operating material) 
b) Instruction and motivation of staff for better
   sorting of waste
c) Investigate the possibility of Green Dot containers, and
   provide these if necessary
Responsibility: Quality and Environment, all department heads,
                all staff
Period: 1999
    6. Environmental target:
improved gathering of data for the environmental performance
   
Measures
a) Installation of a PC program for acquisitions
b) Creation of a "data form" for annual statistics
Responsibility: Acquisitions, Accounts, Quality and 
                Environment
Period: 1999
